Serious Games Interactive has just been shortlisted for a BETT award, which is an annual scheme that highlights exemplar digital products
intended for the education marketplace. The BETT Awards is produced by
Emap Connect, the organisers of the largest educational technology show
in the world – BETT. The BETT Awards is made possible by working in
association with Becta, the Government's lead agency for ICT in
education, and BESA, the trade association representing the educational
supply industry.
The BETT Awards define exemplar products as those which are fit for
imitation, or a model. The awards also recognise outstanding education
sector products and learning solutions. Judges review the entries based
on these criteria, including design, cost-effectiveness, support of
higher order skills and effective learning and teaching styles. For the
technical evaluation, focus is on the robustness and resilience of each
product, and its accessibility for those with specific needs.
The BETT Awards is committed to five key principles:
- Celebrate a distinctive and diverse digital education resources market
- Represent and meet the needs of the education system
- Stimulate the design, production and delivery of high quality learning resources
- Provide options for practitioners, learners and parents who want to use innovative and distinctive educational resources
- Reward inclusive and accessible designs.
In other "Global Conflicts" news:
We’ve given the award-winning Global Conflicts: Palestine a
make-over and added lots of new exciting features that will enhance
your learning and playing experience. The original title, which was
released in 2007, is a 3D role-playing game based on real life stories
for players to explore the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The players
assume the role of a journalist who has just arrived in Jerusalem armed
with a pen, a notepad and their sharp wits. They are confronted with
issues around human rights, terrorism and the media’s role in the
conflicts. The goal is to create the best article for a newspaper by
collecting quotes from the dialog in the game.
The remake includes the following new features:
- New and historically updated locations
- New overall style coherent to the newer Global Conflicts titles.
- Updated characters and more detailed facial expressions.
- A
new simplified way to collect quotes for the article, which put more
focus on understanding the conflict rather than learning to be
journalist.
- New updated interface graphics.
- The overall game is simpler and easier to manage.
- The missions are split up, which makes it easier to fit into a course schedule.
- Now you can play and save the games online on the Global Conflicts portal www.globalconflicts.eu
The first episode to be released is Global Conflicts: Military Raid. In GC:
Military Raid, the player has to form an opinion in complex situations
based upon his/hers own actions, essentially seeing the conflicts from
the inside. In the role of a reporter, you will meet characters with
different perspectives on the conflict between Israelis and
Palestinians. Your editor has heard that the Israeli Defensive Force
(IDF) is preparing for a military operation to go and find a
Palestinian terrorist suspect. For you, this is a brilliant opportunity
to document how a military operation is executed. The episode can be
used to teach subjects like Citizenship, Geography and Media Studies.
The new game is available in English and Danish and prices start from
9,95€ (15$) for a single user license. Get more information on Global
Conflicts: Palestine and the other Global Conflicts titles at
